Damifierce is a womens’ wear brand that is blending the African and western heritage together. I am bringing the elegance of my Nigerian culture to the Canadian mainstream fashion. Let me just re-iterate that Dami-fierce is about to be major, and im glad you are a part of my tribe already. (some people are just waking up on the “Nigerian Vibes”, but that’s ok). if you aren’t, please subscribe to our mailing list to stay in the know).
Want to know more? I am Damifierce, and Damifierce is me! I’m the head designer here, Let me come back, that’s too fancy! I am the designer, the brand developer, the social media manager, Fabric sourcer, Pattern maker, sample developer, tailor, critique, photographer, errand girl, and sometimes the model too. That’s not all, I’m also the content creator, the artist and blogger, amidst all the other little things I do that I do not yet have a name for.
That’s a lot of titles for one person, and I know, but that’s just the reality when you are a one-man business like myself and start your business with little or no capital, or zero “working funds”.
While I’ve always been passionate (and incredibly talented) about clothing, I realized passion was not enough to drive a successful business, seeing as the fashion business is not just about the Art, it’s a balance of Art and Commerce, I went to fashion school to learn the art side, and enrolled in a business development course to learn the commerce side of things.
You see, I’ve had a vision for how my clothing brand, and I’m working tirelessly on every single aspect of the business to get there. I drew a rough sketch of my logo, picked out the layout, font and colors too. (The graphic designer in me). Developed the layout for my website, and every other thing.
Running any business is exhausting, but with a fashion business, theres an extra amount of pressure added. You have to decide if you want to follow trends or be a classic, you have to be creative and original and represent your ideas through your own eyes.
My brain works non-stop. Im either thinking of the next design, how to produce the 100+ designs I have in my sketchbook, how to hire help cos its getting really exhausting, among other things, while holding down a 9-5 Job cos I cant flat out die of hunger, being a mother to 3 very active little humans, and running a home as well!
Most days, I’m up at 5 AM to get the kids ready for school/daycare. I do my school runs and daycare drop off, and I’m headed to work. At the close of work, I’m off to get the kids from daycare, we get home, we all settle in, I make dinner, tidy off after them, send them to bed by 9 and I’m back grinding in my studio. I typically go to bed at 11Pm ish…
This whole thing is so hard and sometimes I ask myself if its all worth it! But I remind myself of why I started and since nothing else gives me more joy than seeing my clothes come alive, I guess that’s all the sign I need… and even when things are not moving as fast as I’ll like, I remind myself that im only one person and theres only so much I can do… so on that note, will you support me if launched a kick starter campaign?
