Have you ever felt the pain of a woman who has abandoned herself? this pain is sharp, deep and excruciating! it Pierces your heart like a hot knife pierces butter. I describe it so well cos I have felt that pain and became familiar with it.
This pain is even more popular among women, especially after the birth of a child or several children.
you see, motherhood comes with a lot of demands and mothers keep giving until we get to the point where we are drained, and even in that state, we give some more, and we never get replenished, we just keep giving from that empty state and before we know it we have abandoned ourselves and start asking how we got here.
I was in this state of mind not too long ago and it sucked! one thing I knew for sure was I needed to feel like myself again. This became my mission and slowly I started doing things for me, I became selfish and happy. dressed up in ways that made me feel good and made several conscious efforts to love me unconditionally, choosing happiness over sadness anytime, any day! and it worked for me.
so dear mama, if you find yourself feeling blue or lost or just wondering how the hell you got “here”, just know that you will definitely get out of it with some sprinkles of self love. block out time to do things that make you feel better and if that means leaving dishes in the sink overnight to have a soak, or serving cereal for dinner to give you time to paint your nails, so be it because at the end of the day, the goal is to not lose our light in the process of lighting others up and to find ways to make us happy and not constantly exhausted.
motherhood is a very long journey, and while we’re at it, we must not dim our shine. after all, it is motherhood and not martyrdom. it should be enjoyed, it should be fun and there has to be balance.
